Job Description
We are seeking an experienced paraprofessional to join the acquisitions team for Boston College Libraries. The Acquisitions and Fiscal Assistant will share responsibility for ordering and invoicing over $9 million in library materials annually. Commitment to excellent customer service and superior attention to detail is necessary for successful performance of these duties: * Receives and prioritizes order requests on assigned funds * Identifies and selects appropriate vendors according to established guidelines * Searches OCLC database and imports bibliographic records for ordered material * Uses automated library system (Alma) to document purchases, invoices, vendors and budgets * Uses university accounting system (PeopleSoft) to approve and track payments and to resolve problems * Provides support to subject specialists, fund managers and the Budget Group regarding orders and budget status * Reconciles monthly bank statements
Requirements
* 1 year of recent experience in library acquisitions, academic library background preferred * Skilled in use of library automated management systems * Thorough understanding of basic accounting principles and practices * Demonstrated commitment to customer service, including initiative and follow-through * Ability to create and manipulate MS Excel spreadsheets * Experience with automated accounting systems, PeopleSoft preferred * Ability to communicate with vendors in a forthright but respectful manner to ensure good service and relations * Bachelor's preferred
